Raise your hand if you’ve ever stared at a blank document, willing the perfect blog post ideas to appear, only to end up scrolling through Instagram reels instead. 🙋♀️ Yeah, same.
You start off with good intentions, thinking, “today’s the day I’m gonna brainstorm a month’s worth of blog posts!” – and two hours later, you’re deep into a video on how to make DIY kombucha. No judgement.
But here’s the thing: creating fresh content doesn’t have to be like pulling teeth or hunting for unicorns. With a little strategy (and a sprinkle of SEO magic), you can unlock a never-ending stream of blog ideas that have your ideal audience saying, “wow, it’s like they read my mind.”
And lucky for you, I’m about to share 13 foolproof ways to make sure you never run out of things to write about.
No more staring contests with a blank page. No more content dry spells. Just a steady flow of topics so good, you’ll feel like a blog-posting machine.
Grab a coffee, fire up that Google Doc, and get ready to fill it with more ideas than your fingers can type out.
Build a Strong Foundation for Blog Content Management
Before we dive into the juicy stuff, let’s talk organisation. Because even the best ideas are useless if they’re scattered across 50 sticky notes, three notebooks, and that mental list you’ll totally remember later.
Create a Content Idea Spreadsheet
Start by creating a master spreadsheet where all your blog ideas can live happily ever after. I’m talking a central hub where you can track everything from potential topics and keywords to publish dates and links to any resources you want to include.
Think of it as a brain dump meets project management system – aka, your new BFF.
And, guess what? To save you the job of creating one from scratch, I’ve made a free keyword management spreadsheet for you that’s already set up and ready to go #winning.
Got your spreadsheet ready? Awesome! Now let’s dive into 13 ways to keep that baby filled to the brim with killer blog topics.
13 Ways to Come Up with Blog Post Ideas
Here’s my tried and tested strategies to create a list of blog post ideas and how to make sure my content ideas never run dry…
1. Use Keyword Research to Find Trending Topics
Keyword research isn’t just for sprinkling a little SEO magic on your posts – they’re content idea generators. Use tools like Ubersuggest or SEMRush (both have free versions) to find search terms your audience is already looking for.
Here’s what to look for: high search volume, but low-to-medium competition. Those are the sweet spot topics begging to be written about.
You can also pop your keywords into Google Trends to see if the topic’s popularity is climbing or flatlining. If it’s trending up, it’s a great sign that your blog will hit at just the right time.
2. Ask Your Audience / Run a Poll
Your audience will literally tell you what they want to read. You just have to ask.
Run a poll on Instagram Stories, drop a question in your Facebook group, look at what people are asking in the DMs, or even ask your email subscribers directly.
Find out what they’re curious about or what they’re struggling with, and boom – you’ve got your next blog topic.
3. Use Google’s “People Also Ask” Feature
If you pop your main keyword into Google, then scroll to the bottom – you’ll find the “people also ask” section.
These are actual questions people are searching for right now. Take one (or a few), and create a blog post that answers them in-depth.

4. Check Your Google Search Console
Look at the search queries people are using to find you in Google Search Console. See any keywords or questions you haven’t addressed yet? That’s the topic for your next post.
And if you’ve already written about those topics, consider updating your old posts to better answer those search queries and capture even more traffic.
All you need to do is:
- Go to Google Search Console and navigate to the “Performance” tab.
- Set the date range to the last 16 months to get a complete view of your data.
- Scroll down to the “Queries” section to see the keywords people are using to find your site.
- Click on the “Pages” tab to see which pages are ranking for those search terms.
5. Peek at Your Competitors’ Blogs
Having a nose at your competitors’ blogs is a great way to get content ideas and see what’s working. But don’t just copy them – where’s the fun in that?
Instead, think about how you can take it up a notch: add more depth, share a fresh perspective, or cover angles they’ve completely missed. Use their posts as a jumping-off point, then make it yours with your own unique spin.
If you want to get super strategic about it, check out my post on Keyword Research and Competitor Analysis for Better SEO Results. It’s packed with tips on how to spot keyword gaps and create content that’ll blow your competition out of the water.
6. Repurpose Existing Content
Got a blog post that’s already performing well? Milk it for all it’s worth!
Take one of the sections and turn it into its own post, or break a broad topic into a more detailed series. Like this blog, for example – I’m giving you a listicle, but I could easily turn each of these 13 points into separate, in-depth blog posts.
And if you don’t have many blogs to pull from yet, use content from your other platforms. If you have a YouTube video or Instagram series that’s performing well, turn those into blog content too.
Repurposing isn’t about recycling, it’s about doubling down on what’s already resonating with your audience.
7. Use Content Idea Generators
Sometimes, the brain just doesn’t want to cooperate. On those days, I like to let AI help out to generate blog post ideas.
Use tools like the Copy.ai Content Idea Generator, Write Sonic or even ChatGPT. Let me just note that you should never let these platforms write the content for you but it will give you a really great list of new blog post ideas.
Just plug in your topic, hit “generate,” and let the blog post ideas roll in.
8. Create Content from FAQs
If you’re answering the same questions from clients or enquiries over and over again, ding, ding, ding – you’ve got a blog topic!
Each question could be a post on its own, or you could compile several into a “Top FAQs About [Your Topic]” article.
9. Create a Blog Series
You’ve probably got a lot to say on your industry. But when it comes to blogs, no one wants to read a novel.
If you’ve got something big to cover – like “how to build a website” – don’t stuff it all into one post. Break it down into bite-sized pieces. Part 1 could be “planning your layout,” followed by posts on design, development, and launching your site.
This will help keep reader engaged, plus it positions you as the expert who knows the ins and outs of the topic. And let’s be honest – it’s also an easy way to get multiple posts out of one idea.
10. Check Out the Latest Industry Trends / News
Sign up for industry newsletters or set up Google Alerts to keep an eye on what’s trending.
When something new pops up, jump on it! Write about the latest updates or break down how these trends could shake up your niche.
It’s a great way to show your audience that you’re not just keeping up – you’re leading the pack.
11. Use AnswerThePublic
AnswerThePublic is like a crystal ball for finding out what your audience wants to know. Type in a keyword, and it’ll show you all the questions people are asking about that topic.
Use these questions as inspiration for blog posts, titles, or even a massive “Ultimate Guide to [Your Topic].”
12. Scroll Through YouTube Comments
You know how people always have something to say in the YouTube comments? Well, that’s where you’ll find your next blog post idea.
Check out a popular video in your niche and scroll through the comments. People love to ask questions, share opinions, and complain about what the video missed. Use their comments as inspiration to create blog posts that answer those questions or cover what the video didn’t.
13. Use Your Feedback Forms
Got responses from your onboarding questionnaires or other feedback forms? Don’t just leave them sitting there.
They’re gold for blog ideas because you’re getting insight directly from your ideal clients.
If multiple clients are asking the same questions or running into similar issues, that’s your cue to create a blog post that addresses those needs.
Putting It All Together
Okay, now you’ve got a toolkit of 13 strategies to keep those blog ideas flowing like your favourite overpriced latte.
But let’s be real, coming up with ideas is just one piece of the puzzle. So let’s answer some of the burning questions that might still be hanging around:
How do you write a catchy blog post?
It all starts with a headline that grabs attention faster than the latest celebrity breakup news. Make it clear, promise value, or tease some intrigue – just don’t go full-on clickbait.
Once you’ve got their interest, hook ‘em with a solid intro. Share a story, crack a joke, or drop a surprising stat that’ll make them need to keep reading.
How do I make my blog posts interesting?
Ditch the corporate jargon and write like you’re talking to a friend (the cool one who actually listens).
Keep your sentences short and snappy, use bullet points, and don’t be afraid to show some personality – sarcasm, humour, strong opinions, the works.
There’s nothing wrong with bringing in some AI help, but you’ve got to throw in some real-life examples, stories, and opinions – that’s what makes you stand out!
And always remember… if you wouldn’t want to read it, your audience won’t either.
How do I find a topic for a blog post?
If you’ve made it this far, you should have plenty of blogging ideas from the 13 strategies we just covered.
But the trick is picking topics that hit the sweet spot between what you know really well and what your audience is searching for.
What does a good blog post include?
Here is a really quick breakdown of exactly what you need to do to structure your blogs, for visitors and for search engines:
1. Catchy Title (H1)
The title should be clear, concise, and catchy. It needs to grab attention and give your readers an idea of what to expect. Obviously for SEO it needs to include keywords and you should also make sure to do some research around the search intent of those keywords.
2. An Introduction
The intro should hook the reader within the first few sentences. You need to make sure to focus on the problem, ask a question, or share an interesting fact, make it fun and friendly. Course it needs to also outline what the post will cover and a table of contents always helps as well.
3. Blog Structure AKA Subheadings
You need to break up the blogs with subheadings, these are your H2, H3, H4 etc. These should ask specific questions around the blogs you are writing and what visitors are searching in Google. They should clearly divide the content into sections, and make it easier for the reader to scan.
4. High-Quality Engaging Blog Content
Make sure to answer these questions every time you write a blog;
- Have you done your research and are you linking out (external) linking to this research to back up your content?
- Does this blog sound like your brand? Can you add in snippets of personality?
- Are you using short paragraphs, bullet points and headings to break up the text?
- Is your blog post to the point? Does it contain relevant information or are you rambling?
5. Images / Videos / Featured Images
Make sure to include images, infographics, or videos to break up text and keep your visitor engaged – you want them to stay on the post for as long as possible. Visuals make the content easier to scan over and they also add value to the blog post, this works well for how-to guides or posts with a lot of info, we don’t want the reader to fall asleep.
6. Internal and External Links
Here’s a quick break down of what these are;
- Internal Links: These are links to all your content within your website, this is linking to relevant content like services, products or other blogs – remember when your on tiktok and you go down that rabbit hole – which makes you stay on the platform for HOURS (just me?). Well, this is the way we want your internal links to work, get them down a rabbit hole to stay on your site for longer and it helps Google find, index, and understand all of the pages on your site.
- External Links: These are links to anything not on your website, basically anything to support your research.
7. Call to Action (CTA)
What do you want the reader to do at the end of your blog post? Do you want them to book a free consultation call? Do you want them to buy a product? Sign up for a freebie or even check out one of your services?
You should always at the end of your blog post, include a CTA.
8. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
Make sure to use relevant and related keywords (don’t just stuff it over and over again with the same keyword) place these keywords naturally through your post. They need to be in your H1 (your title) the introduction, subheadings (h2, h3, h4), in the image alt texts and meta descriptions.
How do I get my blog post noticed?
It’s not enough to hit “publish” and hope for the best! You’ve got to share it everywhere—your socials, email list, and any other platform you can think of.
And don’t forget SEO!
Make sure your post is optimised by sprinkling in keywords naturally (no keyword stuffing), linking back to other related posts on your site, and throw in a solid CTA that nudges readers to check out your services or offers.
